This page is ment for those who would love to set up an ecosystem on a hectare. These could be families who want to establish a kin domain and would love to perform some small scale farming. Thus this is not for professional farmers who run larger plots of land.

For green newbies it certainly requires a bit of knowledge. If one doesn’t have the experience but feels attracted to living on the land, it could be useful to start a vegetable garden in your local area. Through this, people get a feeling of growing plants and handling the soil.

They also experience improved connection with local communities, and become more in tune with nature and the seasonal changes. It is stated that it takes around 30 years to create a flourishing ecosystem on a hectare in which families can thrive and pick the fruits from all labour in abundance. But, we’ve got to start somewhere, and this is where it’s at!

Natural Farming

We Have the Power to Impact Our Future, and We’re Doing Something About It!

Giving and Taking

Natural farming, organic farming, nature inclusive agriculture, permaculture, agroforestry, all these types of farming work in accordance with nature. These could serve as an example for families to chose from. Everybody has the right to develop their own system of farming though, as long as one respects natural laws.

For example, one can take advantage of the local environment, but also has to give back to it. Think of recycling nutriënts, planting new crops and trees, providing extra water when there’s prolongued drought, etcetera.

Soil Restoration

Over the last decennia, farmland has been depleted of important minerals and nutrients due to mono- and agriculture, and intensive lifestock farming.
The usage of pesticides and other chemicals has also polluted our water and damaged the structure of the soil. Thus it is important to stop polluting, clean out waters and invest in soil restoring activities, such as the use of natural products and the planting of restoring crops.

Restoring Crops

Sustainable methods of agriculture and small-scale livestock farming are used as a guideline, including the protection of bees. Alternate cultivation, permaculture, organic fertilizer, and plant varieties that root intensively, create soil recovery and improved soil fertility.

Sharing Knowledge

Experienced farmers who made the switch to these natural types of farming succesfully, can share their knowledge through lectures or online platforms. Using common equipment in the actual hectare villages wil reduce costs and investment.

Planting Forests

Planting Trees By The Millions…

Planting Forests

Fence and Forest

We adhere to the set up of a ‘living fence’ around every hectare consisting of trees and bushes. It is also mandatory to plant a quarter-hectare forest on every hectare. Both the fence and the forest may consist of fruit orchards, nut trees, evergreen trees, conifers, shrubs and berry bushes.

Also, the fence and forest are permanent and may therefore not be used for commercial logging! Ideally all plantations on the estate have a high biodiversity.

Roads and Passageways

Roads and passageways are laid out between all hectare plots in the countryside. They are at least 3 to 4 meters wide, which is 3.2 to 4.4 yards. Trees and bushes are planted alongside those roads.

Make sure the distance from the trees is as far away from the road as the height of the particular trees when fully grown. It will prevent the roots from the trees working up the road surface in the long run, as these are strong enough to even crack asphalt and concrete.

It also makes sure there’s enough sunlight around and there’ll be no risk with stormy weather for the trees to collapse on the road.

Create The Grid

The Basic Outline

When the hectares and hectares-villages are embedded in a hexagonal grid, the roads and ‘living fences’ that surround every hectare, will be designed in the shape of that pattern. Thus they form the actual ‘outline’ of the grid!

When this outline is filled in with at least a quart-hectare forest on each domain, the landscape starts becoming more natural. In this pattern it is also possible that two or three neighbouring hectares place their forests together in the corners of their hectares of land. Then these individual relativly small quart-hectare forests grow into almost one full hectare of forest. The more people will chose to do this, the more forests we see all over the landscape.

Earth Hectare Grid

All these forests can be interlinked via green connecting routes, both inside the villages as in between villages and cities. As such, the grid also creates a migration space for the animal kingdom. On a large scale, millions of these forests will be laid out all over the country, leading up to probably even billions of small forests world wide, planted by as many people! Yes indeed, you got that right: The Earth Hectare Grid is Green.
